The Caterpillar Sixty was an American tracked tractor that was first introduced to the public in the mid-1920s. Its serial production was carried out in the years 1925-1931. The vehicle was powered by a single 4-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 60 HP. The engine was synchronized with a 4-speed (3 forward gears - 1 reverse) manual gearbox.
The Caterpillar Sixty was originally called the CL Best 60 Tracklayer and was developed and produced by the CL Best Tractor Company since 1919. The tractor turned out to be a huge commercial success and was one of the best-selling models in the company's history. However, the CL Best Tractor Company was acquired by Caterpillar in 1925, and from that year the tractor was produced under the name Caterpillar Sixty. The total production of this tractor (in the period 1919-1931) was almost 19,000 units. Tractors of this type were known for an engine that was relatively easy to repair, considerable mechanical reliability, good - for this class of vehicles - off-road capabilities and, finally, a long-used open driver's cab. In the US market, the Caterpillar Sixty competed with the Holt 10 Ton.
